These
prints were completed during my eight years
of living in New York City. Most of the prints
are comprised of monoprints and woodcuts.
Their portability and surface quality make
them ideal in a city "on the go."
Balancing Effect: The
foreground image of me and my partner Joshua
was taken during one of our trips to "P-town." The background image was taken from the road of an Indiana landscape. The images were then put together along with some drawing to create the portrait you see. "Balancing Effect" was
created because of my partner's calming effect
on a rather stressful and chaotic life at
the time. His personality continues to be
a foundation for me, and hopefully I to him.
pin me, please: As a high school freshman, I was 5-feet tall, weighed 83 pounds and wanted to be involved in something. I have never been athletically inclined, but Ryan King, a well-built, handsome senior whom I met at a Christian youth meeting, suggested I try out for wrestling because all body types and skill levels were welcomed. After nearly collapsing at practice during the last round of sprints, Ryan scooped me up and carried me the rest of the way, honeymoon style. Like many 14-year-olds, I struggled with my identity and wrestling showed me one thing that I knew was clearly for me: getting pinned. This image was inspired by the intense practices, friendships and Ryan King for turning the key to a struggling 14-year-old’s heart.
“pin me, please.”
